Novara sack Tesser, appoint Mondonico

Serie A strugglers Novara have sacked manager Attilio Tesser and replaced him with Emiliano Mondonico.

Saturday s defeat at Palermo, Novara s fourth consecutive reverse, saw the league newcomers slip to last place in the league standings.

We would like to thank Attilio Tesser for his for the commitment, dedication, heart and passion put into his work during these years, a club statement read.

His personality and professionalism, and those of his collaborators, allowed the city of Novara to experience the biggest football stages again.

Tesser took charge of Novara in 2009, helping the club to reach the Italian top flight for the first time in 55 years.

Mondonico, a former coach of Atalanta and Fiorentina, has not worked since resigning at Serie B side Albinoleffe in June to battle cancer, which he has since overcome.

His first chance to improve Novara s fortunes will come when they host Chievo on Thursday.
