Last month, broadcaster SER Catalunya alleged Barca had paid €1.6million to the company of Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira – the former vice-president of Spain s Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) – between 2016 and 2018.

Players for the Netherlands  men s and women s sides will be paid the same after the KNVB announced an equal pay agreement, much to the delight of Arsenal striker Vivianne Miedema.

The new agreement will come into play from July 1 ahead of the 2022-23 season, with Dutch football s governing body the KNVB working on the collective deal since 2019.

They hope that the agreement will see TV rights increase for women s football and follows similar approaches taken recently by the United States and Spain.

England already had a collective deal in place since 2020, with women s football set for centre stage at Euro 2022, which starts on July 6.

Karim Benzema will not be excluded from France selection despite being handed a one-year suspended prison sentence on Wednesday, French Football Federation (FFF) president Noel Le Graet has said.

Real Madrid striker Benzema was also fined €75,000 after being found guilty of complicity in the attempted blackmail of former Les Blues team-mate Mathieu Valbuena.

Benzema, who has always denied the accusations and was not present in court in Versailles when the verdict was given, intends to appeal the decision.

The case dates back to June 2015 when Benzema is said to have put pressure on Valbuena to pay off blackmailers in order to keep a sexually explicit tape out of the public eye.

Everton manager Brian Sorensen has signed a new two-year deal with the Women’s Super League club.

Sorensen and his assistant Stephen Neligan have put pens to paper on fresh terms ahead of Friday’s trip to Brighton.

Danish coach Sorensen took over the Merseyside club in 2022 and guided Everton to a sixth-placed finish in his debut season in charge, but they have experienced a difficult current campaign after being hit with a succession of injuries.

Having made his breakthrough at Hoffenheim, Nagelsmann spent two years coaching RB Leipzig, and his exploits there eventually got him the Bayern Munich job in 2021. Thing, however, didn t go too well for him at the Allianz Arena, and earlier this year, he was sacked. As his contract with Bayern still has time to run left, they re still obliged to pay him wages until it expires, or he secures another coaching position with their consent.
